BANKING

NAS JRB Credit Union

The NAS Credit Union was established in 1948 by Prentice “Jake” Jacob, who opened a state chartered, nonprofit entity in accordance with the laws of the state of Louisiana. The original office was located at the New Orleans Lakefront area, which was then the location of NAS JRB New Orleans.

In 1957, the NAS Credit Union had a change of domicile when the base moved to its present location in Belle Chasse. At that time, the credit union only conducted operations for one hour each day on the first floor of a Navy hangar. The credit union moved into the Butler Building A, Suite 262 at 400 Russell Avenue in 1976.

The credit union changed its name from NAS to NAS JRB to be more aligned with the base name in 2001. In September 2004, construction of a new facility began and was completed in April 2005. From a card table in a hangar to a 6,000-square-foot building, we sure have come a long way.

NAS JRB Credit Union offers a full range of banking services including direct deposit, children’s savings accounts, Visa credit cards, Visa check cards, two ATM machines on NAS JRB, bank wires, Western Unions, money orders, American Express Traveler’s Cheques, cashier’s checks, free Internet banking, overdraft protection, (PHH) mortgage services and loans to fit all your needs. All checking and savings accounts are insured by NCUA (National Credit Unions Association).

The NAS JRB Credit Union works hard to provide many different financial services without all the charges, and our goal is to provide exceptional one-on-one, individualized service.

Navy Federal Credit Union
There is also a Navy Federal Credit Union on Belle Chasse Highway, less than a mile south of the main entrance to NAS JRB. Additionally, there are three automated teller machines in the New Orleans area as well; one at the Navy Federal Credit Union building, one next to the commissary at NSA and one at the East Bank at Bldg. 603.

The main facility is a full-service site offering services to assist in decisions such as buying, selling or renovating a home; auto purchases; credit cards; and savings and investments. Since 1933, Navy Federal has grown from seven members to more than 2.5 million members. Since that time, our vision statement has remained the same: To perform with such excellence that all present and potential members will choose Navy Federal as the preferred source for their primary lifetime financial services.

You can leave the military, change employers, move, retire, get married—and never have to leave Navy Federal. “Once a member, always a member.”
